[ And suddenly they're working in a team again -- Johnny's pretty much gotten over the fact that they look exactly alike, even though Steve's built like a brick shithouse and Johnny's pretty much the smaller version of him.

But it doesn't escape his notice that Steve's a lot less chatty than usual, a weight on his shoulders that Johnny can practically see.

He helps to defrost the rest, letting the heat seep into their bodies while he heats himself up, filling the vicinity with a warmth that does its level best to keep the cold at bay, if only for awhile. It's only when the others start to warm up slowly that he turns to Steve and nods, following after him. ]

[At some point, he's been laid on his side on the bed in their room, curled into a fetal position.

Dreams come slowly when he's like this, but they do come, like slow-motion dances flowing through his head as his body keeps him in perfect stasis. This isn't new. The only thing strange about it is how slowly it came on compared to Hydra's methods.

He'll be fine. He just needs to be warmed up, though perhaps carefully.]

[Steve wonders how much he should tell Johnny, that he's used to going in and out of cryofreeze, that he hasn't been free of Hydra enough for his body to not succumb willingly. But he sees him curled up on the bed like someone in the enchanted sleep of a fairy tale, and all he can think about is bringing him out of it.

He doesn't pay attention to the way his own breath is frosty when it leaves his lungs, or the way little trembles go through an otherwise solid frame.]

Do you need me to move him?

[fulminants]

I know him. That's James.

[ Johnny blinks at him, surprised, but he quickly recovers. At this point, there are two people who need his help -- Steve doesn't notice, but Johnny does. notches his body temperature up more than a dozen degrees, the heat emnanating off of him swiftly, working to fill the room into something cozy, something warm.

He reaches to touch Bucky's arm, so impossibly cold, frost gathering -- there's no way he isn't dead, normally, but he's unthawed a few others in worse condition, and he'll definitely help with this one.

With a hand on his chest, he sends a pulse of warmth -- it'll take awhile, and he can pretty much kill two birds with one stone. Taking a seat on the bed next to Bucky, Johnny gestures Steve over as well. ]

No, you don't have to move him. Sit with me, buddy.

[wipedclean]

[Even though Hydra's cryo methods worked faster to freeze him, their means for reviving him worked slowly, and Johnny's method isn't all that different.

Deep inside his body, something recognizes the revival procedures, and slowly, very slowly, his body begins to start working again.]

[Steve's a little surprised too, surprised that Johnny knows him, surprised that Bucky apparently introduced himself as James. Steve looks from his face to the hand against Bucky's chest, waiting for signs that it's working. And he knows that Johnny means for him to be on the other side, but he sits down beside Bucky first. It's possible that he could come out of this in a bad way, that he might lash out at an unsuspecting Johnny. Steve wants to prevent that if he can.

He sees the fingers on his friend's flesh and blood hand twitch, and Steve wraps his and around his wrist, feeling for his pulse and for the warmth returning to his chilled skin.]

Where'd you meet him?

[fulminants]

At the feast.

[ Johnny's piecing fragmented truths together now; even if he doesn't ask why the man goes by 'Bucky' instead. ] Fought together with him for a bit, too, during the war.

[ But he moves on from that quickly, unwilling to linger. He doesn't like the war, even if it had been a necessary evil, and he's watching Steve, studying the way he cares for him, like they've known each other all their lives.

It's working slowly, like it should -- Johnny doesn't intend for Bucky to go into shock at the sudden change in temperature. ] What about you two? I know you both are practically ancient.

[wipedclean]

[He's still not close to consciousness, but his fingers twitch a little more as his heart starts pumping a little faster, and he takes a breath.]

[Practically ancient. Steve snorts softly, only able to be amused once he sees those encouraging signs.]

We grew up together. [And he can't possibly fit everything into those four words, everything that they went through together, everything that Bucky means to him. How do you even put that into words? Steve hasn't figured it out yet. But he adds quickly, before he's awake.] He doesn't remember most of it.

[fulminants]

[ Johnny pauses at that for a few moments, noticing them both already warming up, the heat that builds in the room. It's a good change as far as he's concerned, but they're both going to have to insulate the room in awhile if they want it to last.

In the meantime, however: ]

How come?

[wipedclean]

[His breaths start coming steadily, evenly, his body slowly waking up, though consciousness is a little ways away yet.]

[And that's an even harder question to answer. Steve breathes in, noticing that it's not as unpleasant now that he's stopped pulling cold air into his lungs.]

They took them from him. [Steve's jaw tenses for the moment before he clarifies.] A group called Hydra.

[fulminants]

[ ...Wow, that's fucking messed up. Johnny blinks, not registering the name. ]

Sorry to hear that. This Hydra, they always do that?

[wipedclean]

[He takes a deep breath, his entire body shuddering as he starts to come closer to waking up.]

Only when they want to make someone a weapon. [It's muttered, distracted as he watches Bucky start to come around. Steve says his name, gives him a little shake before glancing up at Johnny. He'll fill him in on the rest later, but he doesn't think 'Hydra' is the first word he needs to hear.] Buck?
