[When Steve sleeps, it's with one ear open. He's given more than a few people his room number, with instructions that they can come by day or night. But right now he's not even making a pretense of it, no matter how late it is.

He figured this question was coming sooner or later.]

Well, for one thing, he was usually snoring by now.

This is so rotten but he has Skye to think of, and Kara. Kara who looks up to him. Kara who thinks that he's a leader, that he's worthy of following knowing all the terrible things it's done. Balm and pain.]

[He really doesn't know what to think about Grant Ward, besides the shared name. He knows that he's Hydra, that he betrayed his team. He knows that Skye was willing to endanger his life, and at the last second, couldn't. The lack of retaliation for that surprises him.

So despite the chaos, looking for another of Hydra's heads, a murderer:]

I stand for the innocent and the defenseless, whether it's out in the world or in this hotel. I stand for my friends, because I know the ones that stand for me. Also for what's right, and the rights of everyone to live free and without fear.
